We are currently seeking a committed and community-minded individual to join our school’s governing body as a Co-opted Governor.
About Us:
Our school is in the village of Worsthorne, just outside the town of Burnley in East Lancashire. Worsthorne school is large and modern in design. It has extensive playing fields and grounds. We have our own Forest School area at the bottom of our field which all our children have the opportunity to experience.
We serve the communities of Worsthorne, Hurstwood, Brownside and Pike Hill. We cater for children from the age of 4+ to 11.
We are a team of committed and dedicated staff who always put the children at the forefront of what we do.
At Worsthorne Primary School, we are proud of our children, all the amazing things they can do, and the kind-hearted and friendly children that they are. Our children are happy here and arrive each day with smiles on their faces, ready for the day ahead.
About the Role:
Co-opted Governors are volunteers appointed by the governing board for the skills and experience they can bring. You don’t need to be a parent or have a background in education—just a commitment to supporting our school’s strategic direction, holding leadership to account, and ensuring public money is well spent.
What You’ll Do:
- Help set the school’s vision and values
- Support and challenge school leadership to drive continuous improvement
- Monitor budgets and resources
- Ensure all pupils have access to high-quality education and opportunities
Skills We’re Looking For (but not limited to):
We welcome applicants from all walks of life, but we’re especially keen to hear from individuals with skills in:
- Finance/accounting
- Human resources
- Legal/governance
- Education
- Community development
- Safeguarding or SEND
Commitment:
Governors typically attend 4–6 full board meetings a year, along with occasional committee meetings, school visits, or training. Meetings are usually held [insert timing – e.g., “in the evenings”.
