Help with Literacy / English
This term’s topic is…
P.E. and sport is an integral part of the curriculum. We have two timetabled sessions of P.E./games, one on a Thursday and one on a Friday. However, we sometimes have impromptu sessions on other days. Your child needs to bring their kit to school on Mondays and take it home for a wash on Fridays.
Kit should comprise of a white T-shirt, black shorts or leggings and pumps. Trainers will be needed for games sessions when we work on the playground or the school field.
Immersing yourself in a good book is one of the best things in the world! We aim to instil a passion for reading in our literacy and guided reading sessions. However, we also believe it is vital that children read often at home especially to an audience. Ten minutes every other day would be perfect. You could also take turns to read with your child to make it more fun. Asking questions during and after reading will ensure that your child has understood what they have read.
Homework will be given out on a Friday. It is not designed to be difficult and should be following on from something we have studied in class. Spellings will be given on a Monday for your child to practise. We will also learn them in school on a daily basis. There will be more emphasis on English this term including handwriting. However, children will be expected to use Times Tables Rock Stars, Numbots and IDL frequently.
Homework – to be handed in Mon-Thurs.
Spellings to be tested on Fridays.
Times Tables Rock Stars is Back!
Please be on the lookout for new password and username stickers that will appear in your child’s homework folder for Times Table Rockstars. There is another Maths website that your child can use called Numbots. This will require the same password and username.
Times tables are an important part of Class 4. There is a test at the end of the year to check if your child knows up to 12 x 12.
Numbots is another Maths based App that focusses on key skills and concepts from ages five to eleven. Activities grow in difficulty as children work through the different levels.
